Our final race of the semester was at Glasgow 4's head. A cold morning saw us arrive with plenty of time to prepare for the 4 boats racing in division 1. First to race was the Nov4+ with 2 boats entered for DUBC in this category of 9 competitors. Some great racing from both crews with our fresher’s just pipping the seniors, coming in at 4th and 5th place respectively. The WR24+ were next to take the course, with a Katie Fisher jumping in as a last minute switch. The women raced well despite never having rowed together before, coming in at a respectable 2nd place. Finally, we had the WNov4x+ set to race. Despite a nightmare with a broken seat the crew worked as best they could to get the boat down the course with their efforts being repaid in the form of 1st place. A fantastic result showing some great potential!
The second division saw 3 crews take on the Clyde, starting with the R24+. Having trained together several times since Aberdeen Head, the guys were keen to make up for an unfortunate race there due to steering issues. They started strong and maintained a good rhythm down the 4K course, sprinting to the line and crossing it in 1st place in their category, another brilliant win for the guys and the club! Finally we had 2 crews entered into the WNov4+. Another great racing opportunity, with the senior crew coming in 3rd and the fresher’s in 6th.
A great way to end the first half of the season with 2 wins for the club. With crews starting to race as a unit, it leaves us in a strong position to being the new year with the focus being towards BUCS.
