Castle Semple allowed for a large group of athletes to race on this past Saturday. It was an early start for most of the rowers, and we were greeted with a windy, showery day of racing, but that didn’t stop DUBC. The day began with the heat and final for the Women’s Novice Double who finished in a close 3rd position.
The Open Res 2 Coxed Four was next with the straight final and finished in 4th and with this crew looking forward to racing at Scottish Championships in two weeks’ time, it was a good indication of what’s to come.
In the Open Novice Coxed Fours we saw close back and forth racing between the 2 DUBC crews entered into the straight final. The final result saw the more senior crew taking a slight lead over the line with the two crews finishing in 4th and 5th, only a boat length behind the leaders.
And finally, the Women’s Novice Coxed Fours finished the day for DUBC with both crews comfortably qualifying through the heats, with the Beginner crew taking a slight lead into the final. With both crews rowing well, the senior crew showed their racing experience and took a lead in the final race to finish in 5th place for the senior boat and 6th for the beginner crew after some choppy conditions.
Overall, it was a great appearance at Castle Semple Regatta again for the club and now counting down the days to the Scottish Championships for the senior squads to take Scotland by storm!
