Club President's Welcome 2018/19

Welcome to the 2018/19 season DUBC! How is it already September!? Before we know it the Head Race season will be upon us? I hope the summer break has given all of our members a chance to relax, recuperate, and enjoyed spending time with their families and friends.

We have a busy year ahead, with the baton being passed to us from last year’s committee, after becoming club of the year for 2017/18. As a relatively small, fully self-funded student club we are itching to get going, and get growing. Having rebranded our club over the summer (if you haven’t read about it... check it out here) we are excited to expand on the great work that has been going on for the last few years. The Equipment team has worked tirelessly to get the Boat House at Inchyra in tip top condition, with new blade designs pained on and boats safely retrieved from essential repairs, we are ready for an influx of new members. Give it a goes are currently underway and we’ve just had our first social of the year 'pub row', organised by our lovely Northern Irish social sec Rachel.

The club is in the best position we have ever been in financially, and we hope to grow that even further under the guidance of our Treasurer Karim. After a successful season of fundraising and sponsorship, my first aim for this year is to expand on this under the watchful eye of our Sponsorship and PR convenor- Matt. The clubs social media has blossomed similarly, and we cannot wait to see what Matt will do next! Our following and image has gone from strength to strength which has helped us massively in developing an improved relationship with Scottish Rowing. We hope that through further engagement in the community, like developing our relationship with Tay and other water sports in the Perth area, we can work towards making the Tay a place where future competitions may take place.

Our Captains' team have high hopes for our competitive crews for the year ahead. They will be focusing on Scottish events but hope to send the top freshers crews to BUCS, top seniors to London in March for WEHoRR and HoRR with the potential for Women's Henley Regatta also in June. For those who don’t want to be competitive, however, there will still be our social rowing Wednesdays and plenty of socials to still feel a part of the clan.

To commemorate the great work, and wins, of last year we thought it was about time to show ourselves off. The club Secretary is currently in the process of collating alumni details, through Facebook, to create a group to send out our newsletter to. Rosie will work closely with Matt to make this an informative and creative read for past members. We hope it may encourage alumni to share with us previous memories, and photos, and perhaps support us in future fundraising.

Club President 18/19 Eleanor Pandya

The Sports Union hired a Club Development Officer in July, and we look forward to working with him closely in progressing our plans for the future. I am in the process of organising bi-semester catch up’s with each member of our committee to make sure we are on target to completing our goals- there are many of them, and why shouldn’t there be? Be sure to head over to the about us section to meet the fabulous incoming committee who I have no doubt will display excellence in their roles over the coming months. And to also meet our dedicated student coaches with whom our performance couldn’t excel without their influence.

I think that’s it from me, thank you for visiting our club website, and I hope this will only develop as a form of communication from us, to you.
